How much do you know about Ancient Egyptian history?

With the centenary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, Middle East Eye puts your knowledge of one of humanity's oldest civilisations to the test

With a recorded history stretching back more than 5,000 years, Ancient Egyptian civilisation continue to take up a big place in the modern imagination.

That's largely down to monuments, such as the pyramids, and perfectly preserved sarcophagi and mummies, as well as the huge trove of textual data preserved in wall inscriptions, tablets and papyri.

A perennial theme for Halloween parties and horror films, Ancient Egyptian culture exerts much more than just an aesthetic influence on Western culture.

In fact, it can be argued that the seeds of Western civilisation were first sown on the banks of the Nile thousands of years ago, with ideas of religion, philosophy and astronomy making their way to Ancient Greece.

Today, interest in Ancient Egypt is going through somewhat of a resurgence. Marvel's new Moon Knight series, for example, draws its influence from the Ancient Egyptian pantheon.
